Jim Harbaugh Reacts to Sherrone Moore's Firing at Michigan

It’s been a hectic week for the Michigan Wolverines after they decided to terminate head coach Sherrone Moore for cause in the end of his second season in charge.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that a university investigation uncovered credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship involving a staff member. Following this, the police arrested Moore for an alleged assault. He now faces charges of third-degree home invasion, stalking and breaking and entering.

Moore joined the University of Michigan coaching staff in 2018 under head coach Jim Harbaugh. He initially served as the tight ends coach before transitioning to offensive line coach and to offensive coordinator. Additionally, he stepped in as head coach for a few games during the 2023 season while Harbaugh was suspended.

Harbaugh left Michigan to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL after the Wolverines won the 2023 national championship. On Friday, he was asked about Moore’s firing.

“Still processing that like a lot of people, I’m sure,” Harbaugh said.

As Michigan navigates the fallout of Moore’s firing, Harbaugh’s response underscores just how sudden and complex the situation has become. What once looked like a carefully planned succession following a national championship has unraveled into uncertainty, forcing the Wolverines to reset yet again.

With a proud program under scrutiny and another coaching search underway, Michigan now faces the challenge of restoring stability while protecting the foundation built during one of the most successful stretches in school history.

Meanwhile, the No. 18 Wolverines (9-3) must prepare for an appearance in the Citrus Bowl against the Texas Longhorns (9-3) at 3 p.m. ET Dec. 31 on ABC.
