STARKVILLE — With Mississippi State football in a bowl game, second-year coach Jeff Lebby is also due the first performance bonus of his tenure.
The Bulldogs (5-7) are playing Wake Forest (8-4) in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Jan. 2 (7 p.m. CT, ESPN) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
They did not achieve bowl eligibility after three straight losses to end the regular season, but received an invitation after opt-outs from Kansas State and Iowa State. It’s MSU’s first appearance in a bowl game since the 2022 season.
According to Lebby’s contract, he’s subject to a $150,000 bonus for participation in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Lebby, like other Mississippi State and Ole Miss coaches, has two contracts. One of them is the standard employment contract with the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, and the other contact is with the Bulldog Club, MSU’s athletic foundation.
The Bulldog Club contract allows Lebby to sign a deal longer than four years, the maximum of the IHL contract.
Lebby is in the second season of his contracts he initially signed when hired.
His salary is $4.35 million for the 2025 season, 55th nationally according to the USA TODAY database. The salary will increase by $15,000 annually through the 2028 season.
