Florida football is closing in on its next wide receivers coach. According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Gators will add Auburn Tigers coach Marcus Davis for the same role in Gainesville.
A native of Boynton Beach, Florida, Davis played four seasons at Auburn from 2013-2016, earning a degree in communication in 2016 and a master’s in education in 2017 from the same school. He helped the Tigers win a Southeastern Conference title as a freshman and appeared in the BCS National Championship game as a senior team captain.
He remained on the Plains during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, serving as an offensive analyst focused on running backs and kick returners before overseeing player personnel and development. Davis spent the 2020 season at Florida State as an offensive graduate assistant, where he worked with the wide receivers and assisted with recruiting
He spent 2021 with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors as the wide receivers coach — a role he would remain in from that point on, including the 2022 campaign. That season, Davis oversaw a Georgia Southern Eagles squad that finished fourth nationally in passing offense (329.2 ypg) and tied for 20th in the country with 28 passing touchdowns.
On Dec. 29, 2022, he returned to his alma mater in Auburn.
Davis was one of the best recruiters on the Auburn coaching staff over the last couple of seasons, playing a key role in the Tigers’ commitments from receivers Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, and Malcolm Simmons for the 2024 recruiting class. Though the offense often struggled in the passing game the past few years, it was rarely due to the lack of receiving skill on the team.

He tells me there are no bad vibes with Auburn, “that’s home,” but he is looking forward to the opportunity at Florida.
