Michigan football QB Jadyn Davis to enter transfer portal

At one point, he was believed to be the heir apparent to J.J. McCarthy.

Now, he’s looking for a new home.

Jadyn Davis, a four-star quarterback in the recruiting class of 2024, has made it known he will enter the transfer portal when it opens − be it early January for the national window, or five days after U-M hires a new coach and a 15-day window opens for all Michigan players, according to two people with knowledge of the situation granted anonymity by the Free Press because they are unauthorized to speak publicly on the roster.

Davis becomes the first Michigan player we know of planning to enter the portal since former head coach Sherrone Moore was fired on Wednesday for having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

Team Maize quarterback Jadyn Davis (2) makes a pass against Team Blue during the second half of the spring game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Davis. A 6-foot-1, 207-pound prospect from Providence Day School (Charlotte, North Carolina) enrolled early during the Rose Bowl in Dec. 2023 as the No. 9 quarterback in the nation, per 247Sports composite rankings. Despite the hype, he played in just four games during two seasons at Michigan, which included a redshirt year in 2024 as a freshman.

During that time, Davis attempted just two passes, one of which was intercepted this past October in a 31-13 road loss at USC. In 2024, many fans wanted U-M to turn to Davis when the quarterback carousel of Jadyn Davis, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle didn’t produce, but coaches implied he wasn’t ready.

Michigan is set to take on Texas on Dec. 31 in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando (ABC, 3:00 p.m) and it’s not immediately clear if he will still be on the roster or travel with the team.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.
