Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday, Dec. 16, that he has spoken with former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore, who was fired for cause due to an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Moore, in the aftermath of his firing, was arrested and charged with felony home invasion and two other misdemeanors on Dec. 12, according to court records. Moore served as an assistant under Harbaugh from 2018-23, rising from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator in his final season before being promoted to head coach.
Harbaugh said on the "Dan Patrick Show" he has shared texts with Moore since Moore was arrested, although the two haven't spoken on the phone since early December.
"It's a tragedy," Harbaugh said. "I mean, it's the worst days of his life. Keep it together and take care of your family. That's the message. And getting spiritual guidance is really critical."

Harbaugh coached Michigan from 2015-23, leading the Wolverines to a national title before leaving for the Chargers opening. Harbaugh effectively can't coach again in college until 2038, due to a 10-year show-cause penalty that only goes into effect after a previous four-year penalty is served.
Harbaugh originally avoided the question from Patrick before noting he had exchanged texts with Moore.
"It's a tragedy," Harbaugh said as he struggled to find words to describe the situation. "Just praying for all, concerned. I love my alma mater, I love Michigan, but I love the Chargers too, and I'd be doing a disservice if I wasn't putting all my focus on this game, this is the most important game for us."
Michigan faces Texas on Dec. 31 in the Citrus Bowl with Biff Poggi serving as interim head coach. The Wolverines are conducting a coaching search to replace Moore.
