Nine Ohio State football players named to the AFCA All-American teams

Ohio State football players continue to be littered across the postseason All-American teams, the latest bushel being named via the American Football Coaches Association, one of five publications used to recognize consensus All-American honors.

Prior to Tuesday, four Buckeyes had already appeared on the Associated Press and Walter Camp First Team, and that continued with the AFC naming those four as first-teamers, but also including center Carson Hinzman, his first first-team All-American recognition of the postseason. The four previous players include safety Caleb Downs, defensive tackle Kayden McDonald, linebacker Arvell Reese, and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. All four have now appeared on three of the five major publications, and that means they have all reached consensus status.

But those five players weren’t the only ones named. Five more Ohio State players were named to the AFCA Second Team. Quarterback Julian Sayin, wide receiver Carnell Tate, left guard Luke Montgomery, and defensive end Caden Curry all received the honor.

There are now just two more All-American teams that are used for consensus status. The Sporting News will announce its team on Wednesday, and that will be followed by the Football Writers Association of America’s announcement on Thursday.
