MONTGOMERY — Jacksonville State football is without one of its best players for the Salute to Veterans Bowl against Troy.

Cam Cook was seen in street clothes before kickoff on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and an athletics department spokesman told the Gadsden Times that Cook has “been banged up” leading to him being out. With Cook being out, the Gamecocks will rely on Andrew Paul and Khristian Lando at running back.

The Gamecocks will also be without cornerback Tre’Quon Fegans and offensive lineman Reggie Jackson for the bowl game. Fegans was seen on the sideline in street clothes as well with an injury. Jackson was not on the trip with the Gamecocks.

Cook is in his first season with the Gamecocks after transferring from TCU. He ran for 1,584 yards and 16 touchdowns on the year, leading the nation in rushing yards with 132 per game.

Cook earned All-American honors this season and was the Conference USA Player and Newcomer of the Year. It was the second year the Gamecocks had a player sweep those awards, after Tyler Huff won them in 2024.

Cook topped 200 yards against Sam Houston State and had 100 yards in 10 of the Gamecocks’ 13 games. That includes all Conference USA regular season games.

Cook is a junior and will have at least one more year of eligible if he chooses to use it.
