Lane Kiffin Loses Longtime LSU Football Coach To Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin is quickly learning just how quickly the tables can turn in college football.

Despite enjoying a historic season at Ole Miss, Kiffin decided to accept LSU's seven-year, $91 million offer and take his talents to Baton Rouge. His departure from Oxford didn't go over well with Rebels fans, that's for sure. However, that didn't stop him from joining the Tigers.

"When you take the history, tradition, passion and the great players in the state of Louisiana, no one can argue that when you're in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night, there is nothing like it," Kiffin said. "This place is built for championships with championship expectations — we understand that – but as an elite competitor, that's exactly what you want, and that's why we're here."

After losing Kiffin to LSU, it was revealed that Pete Golding would be the full-time head coach at Ole Miss. Although he has a College Football Playoff game to prepare for, that won't stop him from making additions to his staff.

Ole Miss strikes back.

According to On3's Pete Nakos, Ole Miss is hiring LSU interim coach Frank Wilson.

"The move will occur after the Tigers’ bowl game," the report from On3 states. "Wilson is set to be Ole Miss’ running backs coach under new head coach Pete Golding."

Wilson was an assistant coach at LSU from 2010-2015 before making stops at UTSA and McNeese State. He then returned to LSU in 2022 to be the running backs coach and associate head coach.

LSU named Wilson its interim coach after Brian Kelly was fired. He went 2-2 as the program's leader, picking up wins over Arkansas and Western Kentucky.
