Evan Fiebig wins rugby title after playing football for Vols' coach

Tennessee won the 2025 rugby national championship after defeating Bowling Green, 21-15, on Dec. 13 at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Senior Evan Fiebig helped the Vols win their second national title in program history. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound prop is from Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At Moeller, Fiebig also played football for former Tennessee assistant coach Mark Elder. Elder served as Moeller’s football head coach from 2020-23 and was Tennessee’s tight ends coach and special teams coordinator from 2013-15 under head coach Butch Jones.

Elder left the Vols following the 2015 season to become Eastern Kentucky’s football head coach. He was the Colonels’ head coach from 2016-19 before going to Moeller.

Fiebig played mike and will linebacker for Elder at Moeller. He committed to Tennessee rugby on April 6, 2022.

Elder discussed Fiebig signing to play for Tennessee with Vols Wire in 2022.

“He’s a great young man, tough, really hard worker,” Elder said of Fiebig. “He played linebacker and is a tough, hard-nosed kid. He is really committed and works his tail off. He is one of the hardest working kids we have in the program here. He is just a spectacular young man.

“He loves to compete and I think he will do really well.”
