A Florida Gators wide receiver is set to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Gators wide receiver Tank Hawkins has plans to enter the transfer portal. Hawkins only compiled two receptions for 16 yards in four games this season after finishing the 2024 season with 10 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. Because he only played four games this year, he decided to redshirt.

During his two seasons at Florida, he recorded 12 receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Hawkins was a four-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 38 recruit in Florida, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also the No. 47 wide receiver recruit in the nation and the No. 276 overall recruit.

Hawkins will have multiple seasons of eligibility left, which will be appealing to schools as they try to build out their rosters for 2026 and beyond.

Jon Sumrall is the new head coach of the Gators, taking over for Billy Napier after he was fired seven games into the 2025 season. At the time of Napier’s firing, the Gators were 3-4.

Sumrall has won 20 of 27 games as the head coach of the Tulane Green Wave. He guided them to the College Football Playoff this year where they’ll take on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford this Saturday. Sumrall will coach the Green Wave in that game and throughout the CFP until they’re eliminated.

After that’s done, he’ll try to turn a Gators program around that only won four games this year.
