The Michigan Wolverines have a tough task ahead of them in Dec. 31’s Citrus Bowl against Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns, who made a strong case for entry into this year’s College Football Playoff.

The Wolverines are reeling after the firing and subsequent scandal involving former head coach Sherrone Moore with interim coach Biff Poggi tasked with remediating the situation.

Following the firing of Moore, Poggi’s future with the team got a vote of confidence from the father of a player who stood out this season in Ann Arbor.

Poggi’s Future Gets Vote of Confidence

Poggi’s future got a vote of confidence from Terry Hoffman, the father of Michigan tight end Jalen Hoffman, who stood out during the 2025 Michigan Spring Game but did not record a catch this season.

Hoffman recorded one tackle and was consistently praised by coaches for his progress as the backup to a jam-packed tight end room featuring Marlin Klein, Hogan Hansen, Zack Marshall, Deakon Tonielli and others.

Terry Hoffman returned the favor with praise for Poggi, who had a 2-0 record filling in for Moore and is considered to be a candidate for the Michigan head coaching job in some circles.

“We strongly support Biff & want him to remain in the building,” Terry Hoffman said according to Chris Breiler of Winged Helmet Media.

“He has communicated, consistently, & transparently with families, earning our trust and gratitude,” Terry Hoffman added.

“We believe his presence is essential moving forward.”

Poggi’s Biggest Weak Point?

The 66-year-old Poggi’s all-time record as a Division-I head coach now stands at 8-16 after two wins with Michigan and a 6-16 mark at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Poggi built St. Frances (Baltimore) Academy, a renowned Catholic high school athletic program, into a powerhouse before moving onto the college ranks and is well-connected among the biggest names in college football including seven-time national champion Nick Saban.

Fans have pointed out Poggi’s rough time as head coach of the 49ers as evidence that he shouldn’t be considered as Moore’s long-term replacement.

Poggi’s charisma, charm and love for the game of football stand out above his college coaching record, making him a favorite among college football fans nationwide along with Michigan fans, parents, alumni and players.

Poggi has an outside chance of succeeding Moore in 2026, but it will likely take plenty of luck, and a strong performance against the ‘Horns, to make the dream come true.
