Oklahoma State football adds Greg Richmond to staff in full-circle moment

STILLWATER — When Greg Richmond arrived at Oklahoma State as a player in 1999, the defensive coordinator was Mike Cassity.
On Wednesday, when Richmond was announced as the new defensive line coach for the Cowboys, the defensive coordinator is Skyler Cassity, Mike’s oldest son.
This will be Richmond’s third coaching stint at OSU, but it comes with that unique full-circle moment to cap it off.
Richmond, a former Cowboy defensive end, is following Eric Morris from North Texas to coach the defensive line, the university announced Wednesday.

Richmond, who came out of Oklahoma City’s Douglass High School, ended his Cowboy career with 21.5 sacks, which ranks sixth in the all-time record book.
After his NFL career, he returned to OSU as part of the strength staff for Mike Gundy in 2007-08. From there, he transitioned to a position coach at the high school and Division II level.
That ultimately led him back to OSU as the assistant defensive line coach for Gundy in 2018. His five-year run ended when Gundy dismissed him after the 2022 season.
Richmond landed at Sam Houston on the staff of Skyler Cassity in 2024, then remained with Cassity when he moved to North Texas for the 2025 season. And now, they’ll be together at OSU.
With Richmond working alongside Ike Eguae on the defensive line, North Texas recorded 23 sacks in 13 games this season.
