Ahead of Texas A&M’s (11-1, 7-1 SEC) first-round matchup in the College Football Playoff vs. Miami on Saturday afternoon, senior edge Cashius Howell became just the eleventh unanimous All-American in program history after receiving first team designations from every major selectors: the Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press (AP), Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), which was announced on Friday.
In ascending order, Howell joins former Texas A&M standouts John Kimbrough (1940) and John David Crow (1957), linebackers Ed Simonini (1975), Robert Jackson (1976), Marcus Buckley (1992) and Dat Nguyen(1998), offensive lineman Luke Joeckel (2012) and offensive lineman Jake Matthews (2013), defensive end Myles Garrett (2016) and punter Braden Mann (2018) to be named a unanimous All-American after leading the SEC with 11.5 sacks and 41 pressures during the regular season.
Coupled with 29 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and six pass breakups, Howell was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-SEC honors after surprisingly being left off the preseason All-SEC teams. Howell’s journey to College Station after his breakout 2023 season at Bowling Green wasn’t easy, as he had to play behind future NFL first- and second-round picks Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart.
Transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion is a consensus All-American after being named first team all-purpose in three major outlets (AFCA, AP, and FWAA), and is this year’s recipient of the Paul Hornung Award after leading the Aggies with 57 receptions, 886 yards, and nine touchdowns, while returning two punts for touchdowns, averaging an impressive 20 yards per punt return.
Fellow transfer WR Mario Craver was also named as a first-team FWAA All-American after finishing the regular season with 52 receptions for 825 yards and four touchdowns.
