Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep’s touted tight end JT Geraci has committed to Texas.
The blue-chipper chose to play for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns over his other finalists in Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.
Geraci becomes commit No. 3 for Texas in the 2027 recruiting class joining five-star receiver Easton Royal and four-star defensive back Greedy James.
“Just the overall environment, I got a gut feeling when I was down there this place was something special,” Geraci said. “To finally be able to be part of it feels really special.”
Texas assistant coach Jeff Banks was the lead recruiter for Geraci. They offered back in June and he visited during the fall.
“Obviously the level of competition they play in the SEC,” Geraci said. “Probably the hardest conference in college football. The highest level of recruits that go there and the level of players you play against. You’re playing against top-tier competition in practice and in games. It’s best against best and it’s great.”
Texas checked all the boxes for Geraci who ranks as the Rivals Industry’s No. 27 tight end.
“It all started when I visited down there for a game,” Geraci said. “Texas is obviously a blue-blood program. I really wanted to get down there. When I got down there Austin is such an amazing city and the environment at the game I really loved it there.
“Just talking with Coach Banks he was talking about plans when someone commits, and if they’re an early graduate, getting them to learn the offense and get them into rhythm as soon as possible. That was awesome seeing him getting the younger guys learning and get the younger guys in games early in the season for reps and development. That was huge for me and I loved hearing that.”
Don Bosco Prep recruiting coordinator Markell Harrison gives Geraci high praise.
“First and foremost he’s a throw back. You can coach him hard. He can take the coaching and not go in the tank when you challenge him to do better. That’s refreshing as a coach.
“Then next is the obvious. Being a big target you can throw to that can run and catch the football and cause matchup nightmares. JT is just a great kid.”
