The transfer portal got a little more crowded on Thursday night, as TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Josh Hoover reportedly chose to hop in. For Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers, the move might have been some pretty good news.

“Indiana is an early school to watch with Josh Hoover, per sources,” 247Sports national college football writer Chris Hummer wrote Thursday night on X.

Hoover, a redshirt junior, played for the Horned Frogs for four seasons, played 35 games over the past three years. During that stretch, he threw for 8,627 yards and 71 touchdowns. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.

Under Cignetti, Indiana has surged to the top of the sport as it awaits its College Football Playoff quarterfinal opponent. The Hoosiers have shown themselves to be able to prop transfer passers up, as Fernando Mendoza took home the Heisman Trophy last Saturday night.

Mendoza won the prestigious stiff-arming statue by beating out Notre Dame tailback Jeremiyah Love, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia and Ohio State signal-caller Julian Sayin. Mendoza led the country in passing touchdowns (33) and threw for 2,980 yards.

“I haven’t seen the numbers yet,” Mendoza said. “But it’s such an honor to be mentioned with these guys (Pavia, Love and Sayin). It’s really a credit to our team. It’s a team award.”

With Mendoza’s success, transfer portal quarterbacks will likely take a long, hard look at Indiana, which is the only team in the country to enter the College Football Playoff undefeated.
