In the mid 1990’s, defensive back Alex Molden was a star in the Oregon Ducks secondary. A four-year starter, Molden helped lead the Ducks to Rose and Cotton Bowl appearances in 1994 and 1995. He left Oregon as the program leader with 60 passes broken up and eighth in interceptions (11) while being named a first-team All-American in 1995.

Molden went on to be selected 11th overall in the 1996 NFL draft, spending eight season in the NFL and intercepting 12 passes and tallying 252 tackles. He was inducted into the Oregon Hall of Fame in 2008.

Nearly 30 years after his Ducks career came to a close, Molden’s son is now heavily considering joining the Ducks himself.

Josiah Molden is a four-star cornerback in the 2027 class and reportedly has Oregon as one of the favorites in his recruitment.

Speaking to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, Molden noted the stability of the Ducks’ program with head coach Dan Lanning at the top.

“Lanning is going to be there for a long time,” Molden said. “I don’t have to worry about that. I’ve gotten to really connect with him and grow our relationships since the eighth grade. It is pretty relieving because coaches say that sometimes and then do their own thing without telling anybody but when Dan Lanning says something, that thing is going to be true.”

Oregon and Ohio State are the two leaders in Molden’s recruitment, but Texas, USC and Notre Dame are making their way into the conversation as well.

The 6-foot, 175-pound cover man is also an Oregon native, competing for West Linn High School, potentially giving Lanning and the Ducks a leg up in his recruitment.

Molden is the No. 20 cornerback and No. 198 player overall in the 2027 class, per 247 Sports Composite. He is the top-ranked player in Oregon.

Though the Ducks are loaded at the cornerback position with true freshman Brandon Finney Jr., Na’eem Offord and redshirt freshman Ify Obidegwu all contributing this season (which has led to three players in the secondary to enter the transfer portal), Lanning has shown his propensity for still going after top talent.

Especially considering Molden is a top-20 cornerback and hails from the state of Oregon, he’d be a tremendous addition for Lanning and the Ducks’ secondary.
