Longhorns enter recruiting battle for 2027 RB SaRod Baker

With the 2025 campaign almost in the rearview mirror, the Texas Longhorns are shifting their focus to the future. On Thursday, they extended an offer to 2027 running back recruit SaRod Baker. The three-star prospect has drawn interest from programs nationwide and can now add Texas to that list. 

While Baker would give the Longhorns running back room a boost they do face competition. The Texas native has also received offers from Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and Ohio State. That list could continue to grow the longer that Baker stays on market. The heavy interest is partly due to the numbers he put up in 2024.

In his sophomore campaign, the DeSoto High star recorded 526 rushing yards and averaged 7.4 yards per carry. He also found the end zone nine times and thrived regardless of the opponent. He also made an impact in the passing game, hauling in 43 catches for 477 yards. 

Due to his stellar play, Baker has seen his sock rise. Currently, he is ranked as the 72nd-best running back in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 103rd best player in Texas. While the Longhorns' newest prospect still has some room to grow, he showed as a sophomore that he has the potential to be an impact player. 

If Baker were to join Texas, he would be part of a 2027 class that is already full of talent. The Longhorns have secured commitments from four-star wide receiver Easton Royal, three-star tight end JT Geraci, and three-star cornerback Karnell James. With a few holes to still fill, the Longhorns will be busy in the coming months. 

As Baker continues to weigh his options, Texas will keep a close eye on how he narrows his list. Regardless of what he decides, the Longhorns have made it clear that they see him as being a part of an exciting future they are building.
