The Georgia Bulldogs are in the mix for a Big Ten defensive lineman that plans to transfer when the transfer portal opens on Jan. 2. USC Trojans defensive line transfer Devan Thompkins intends to transfer and has one season of college football eligibility left.
On3's Pete Nakos (subscription required) named Georgia, Alabama and Oregon as a teams "to keep an eye on" for Thompkins. Coach Kirby Smart and Georgia are always on the hunt for elite defensive linemen and Thompkins could check that box next season.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive has the size Georgia covets. Thompkins is coming off a productive 2025 season, where he posted 31 tackles, two pass deflections and three sacks. Thompkins is a former three-star recruit from Stockton, California.
Thompkins is one of the top ranked players that is expected to transfer. 247Sports ranks the USC defender as the No. 7 player that plans to transfer and the second-best defensive lineman.
Thompkins' production and measurables means he'll likely command a lot of interest from top programs. Last year, Texas Tech notably prioritized defensive linemen and landed two of the top-seven defensive line transfers. Texas Tech used elite defensive line production en route to a College Football Playoff berth and could be another team interested in Thompkins.
