The College Football Playoff kicks off on Friday. Unfortunately, USC will once again not be in the field, as the Trojans dropped one or two too many games during the regular season to get in. However, there are still plenty of compelling matchups and storylines to follow.
So who should USC fans root for in this year’s playoff? Here is a quick rooting guide:
Root against Oregon
This one is obvious: Oregon has never won a national championship in football. USC fans would very much like for it to stay that way.
Root for Miami
On the other hand, imagine if Mario Cristobal wins a national championship before Dan Lanning does. How hilarious would that be?
Root against Oklahoma
It is already uncomfortable enough that Oklahoma made the CFP with Brent Venbales before USC did with Lincoln Riley. Can you imagine the narrative if the Sooners make a deep postseason run?
Root for Tulane
There are two clear underdogs in this year’s playoff: Tulane and James Madison. However, USC fans will have a tough time getting behind the Dukes because their head coach, Bob Chesney, is headed to UCLA after the CFP ends. Roll Wave, then.
Root for Indiana
Indiana is actually good at football for the first time in seemingly forever. Fans of pretty much every team not in the playoff (and not named Purdue) should be pulling for the Hoosiers.
Root for Ole Miss
With Lane Kiffin’s departure for LSU, USC and Ole Miss now share the same toxic ex. The two fanbases should be able to bond over that.
