ARLINGTON — Stephenville stayed perfect in state championship football games, moving to 7-0, raising the trophy in every opportunity the Yellow Jackets have ever had.
But they did it in a manner unusual in modern Texas high school football.
The Jackets won a 10-0 slugfest against Kilgore to clinch title No. 7 in the lowest-scoring state championship game in the AT&T Stadium era, which dates back to 2010.
Malakoff beat Franklin 14-7 in 2023 in the previous record for fewest points in Arlington’s domed stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, which takes the late-December elements out of play.
The 2025 championship win featured the lowest combined points since Groesbeck beat Burnet 7-0 in Class 3A in 1991.
The game was also the first time since 2004 that two teams were scoreless in the first half of a state championship game, dating back to Boyd and Newton.
