BRANDON — Brandon High School hired Eugene Clinton to take over its football program after serving as interim coach since Oct. 21, according to the school’s Facebook post.

Clinton, who will also serve as Brandon’s athletics director, took over the interim role after Lance Pogue resigned nine weeks into the 2025 Mississippi high school football season. It was Pogue’s first season as Brandon’s coach.

Brandon finished the season 7-6. Clinton went 4-2 as the interim coach and led the Bulldogs to the MHSAA Class 7A state semifinals, losing to Gulfport, 40-7, on Nov. 28. Clinton takes over a Brandon program that has played in three of the past five 7A state championship games (2021, 2022 and 2024).

The former Provine High and Mississippi State standout has been on Brandon’s staff for the past 10 seasons and served as Pogue’s defensive backs coach through the first nine games of 2025. He played two seasons in Starkville and helped Mississippi State reach the SEC Championship game against Tennessee in 1998.
