Dan Boggan is returning to the sidelines.
Eastern announced Boggan as its new football coach on Friday, Dec. 19. He replaces Jordan Morgan, who led the Quakers from 2018 through 2025.
"It truly is exciting to have an opportunity to come back and coach and come back and coach at your alma mater," Boggan said. "That's extremely special. I had a lot of great years at Sexton. I will always love that time I had at Sexton. To be able to change the narrative at my alma mater is extremely special."
Boggan, who played at Eastern in 1984 and '85 before going on to to play college football at Indiana and Western Michigan, last coached in 2017 at Sexton. He was the winningest coach in Sexton history and finished his tenure there with a 114-59 record and 11 playoff appearances. Boggan was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2020.
Boggan takes over an Eastern program coming off a 2-7 season. Eastern last had a winning season in 1997 when it finished 7-3 and made the playoffs.
Boggan believes his experience at Sexton can help as he aims to turn around his alma mater.
"I think the credibility of what I've accomplished at Sexton, I think it will carry some weight with these young men," Boggan said. "I think they want to be coached and they want to be coached hard. I think they want to be developed. I think they want to become the best players that they can be and I believe I can give them that."
Eastern athletic director Ramona Mendez said the hiring of Boggan marks an exciting time for the football program.
"Coach Boggan brings with him a strong commitment to student athletes, a passion for developing young men both on and off the field and a clear vision of building a competitive and disciplined football program," Mendez said. "His leadership, energy and dedication to accountability and teamwork align perfectly with the values here at Eastern High School."
