The 2025 season has come to an end for Oklahoma.
For the past 13 games, fans have lived a whirlwind of emotions: from John Mateer being a Heisman contender to injuring his hand and coming back with disappointing performances, to a four-game win streak to clinch the team's spot in the College Football Playoff, including a huge upset over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Sooner fans have seen it all.
While hosting No. 9 Alabama for the team's third matchup in 13 months, OU concluded its season with a 34-24 loss.
Here is how fans reacted to the loss and looked back at the season:
"No one to blame but themselves"
Self inflicted wounds that were not even remotely caused by any pressure by Alabama are absolutely killing OU.
They have no one to blame for this predicament but themselves.#Sooners— Darin (@whyno_6) December 20, 2025
This season was an obvious success for the Sooners
Had a brutal schedule and won 10 games
No shame in losing to bama here — but a LOT of shame in how the Sooners lost tonight
Hard to kill

Good season, eyes on 2026
Love this OU team and the direction of the program. Great season. Will be better next year. #Sooners

I am disappointed at the ending of the season. I am proud of the growth this team has shown. I cannot wait to see how they show up next year! #Boomer#Sooners#BoomerSooner

A great season for the Sooners. Sucks it ended like that after a great year, but the Sooners are young and can surely make it back.

Mixed opinions on Tate Sandell
I hope OU fans don't send death threats or anything like that to Tate Sandell (OU kicker). I understand those kicks must be made. But if Oklahoma, had continued to play the way they played in 1st half, through the whole game. It wouldn't have had to come down to Sindell's foot.

Crazy how Tate Sandell is likely the best OU kicker in program history, but his lasting legacy will be his two missed field goals tonight…
— Gunner Norene (@norene_gunner10) December 20, 2025
Gutted for Tate Sandell. Was easily the best kicker in college football all year, and his season ends with consecutive misses and heartbreak.
Oklahoma fell apart at the seams across the board against Bama – this CFP loss isn't on the kicker.

Final thoughts on Mateer, OU offense
I feel bad for Sandell bc they're going to try to scapegoat that boy.
This loss is on John Mateer. Bro was up 17-0, then proceeds to completely forget how to play football, threw a pick six & gets sacked 5x.

John Mateer has been horrid after going up 17-0. Has almost personally taken 14 points off the board for OU

arbuckle and mateer gotta go
— rippy rubio (@notnotjonny) December 20, 2025
Mateer and Arbuckle actually proved they knew what they were doing tonight. Outside of the one horrid decision by Mateer. Just unfortunate. Excited to see next seasons team. Get a consistent offense paired with Venables defense, OU is going to be scary.
