Heading into the final week of the 2025 regular season, the College Football Playoff committee had Notre Dame ranked No. 9, followed by Alabama at No. 10, BYU at No. 11 and Miami at No. 12. Following that weekend, not much changed, except Bama and the Irish swapped places. Alabama struggled in a 27-20 win over Auburn, while Notre Dame beat Stanford, 49-20.

That put Alabama at No. 9 heading into the SEC Championship Game against Georgia. It left Notre Dame, which did not play a conference championship game because, well, it’s not in a conference, at No. 10.

Georgia demolished Bama, 28-7. Miami did not play that weekend, either, as it failed to qualify for the ACC Championship Game. Many around South Bend thought that Alabama’s beatdown in Atlanta should have paved the way for the Irish to get in. That wasn’t the case. Notre Dame was left out. Miami, which beat Notre Dame in Week 1, made it in. And so did Alabama, which now had three losses, one more than Notre Dame.

Notre Dame ultimately declined its bowl game invitation.

Meanwhile, Friday night, Alabama kicked off its College Football Playoff run with a road game in Norman against Oklahoma. The Crimson Tide went down 17-0 early in the meeting before storming back to tie things up at 17-17 going into the half.

But when that scoreboard read 17-0 in favor of the Sooners, you can only imagine how Notre Dame fans across the country were feeling.

“Surely Alabama is getting absolutely belted. Nice job committee,” wrote Irish Muse on X.

“Anyone that thinks Oklahoma and Alabama are better than Notre Dame can never speak about college football again,” said another.

“Notre Dame is a thousand percent better than Alabama and that much is clear tonight in the Tide’s CFP game against Oklahoma. I will never forgive Finebaum and the wicked corruption machine which is ESPN in making this happen. They are immorally controlling College Football and altering it for the benefit of their SEC and ACC partners. CROOKED. Go Sooners,” added another.

“This is the Alabama team you decided to put in over Notre Dame? What a freaking joke,” said a fan.

“The entire CFB world owes Notre Dame a huge apology. A complete joke this fraud Alabama team got in over us,” one more said.

Keep in mind, these posts were made when the score read 17-0. The Alabama first-half comeback did not look like it was coming as quickly as it did. But that’s Alabama for you.

The winner of the Alabama vs. Oklahoma game will go on to play top-seeded Indiana in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the bracket, Miami visits College Station for a game against Texas A&M on Saturday. The winner of that game plays Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31.
