WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue football's newest position coaches will begin on two-year contracts.
Offensive line coach Zach Crabtree will make $500,000 annually per the terms of his first deal with the Boilermakers. Receivers coach Bilal Marshall will make $300,000.
Also starting two-year deals are executive director of player personnel Butler Benton ($250,000) and senior defensive analyst Dave Steckel ($150,000).
Purdue's three coordinators and seven on-field coaches comprised a total salary pool of $6.25 million last season. That may fluctuate up or down pending the contract details for defensive coordinator Kevin Kane. No exact salary pool is specified in Odom's contract, only that it would remain "competitive with other Conference and peer programs."
All four of the new hires are eligible for the same bonus structure as Odom's other full-time assistants:
- Academics: 3% of annual base pay if equaling target GPA range, 6% if exceeding it. (Paid at 50% for academic year ending June 30, 2025.)
- First place Big Ten finish: 3%. Second place: 1.5%.
- Big Ten championship game appearance: 3%. Big Ten championship game win: 6%
- Non-College Football Playoff bowl: 7.5%
- Non-CFP Big Ten bowl: 10%
- CFP Round of 12: 12%
- CFP Round of 8: 15%
- CFP Final Four: 18%
- CFP Championship appearance: 20%
- CFP Championship victory: 25%
Additionally, Benton can earn additional bonuses for Purdue's finish in various recruiting rankings:
- Big Ten high school and transfer portal: $15,000 for No. 1, $12,500 for top five, $10,000 for top seven and $7,500 for top 10.
- National high school: $15,000 top five, $12,500 top 10, $10.000 top 25, $7,500 top 40.
- National transfer portal: $15,000 top five, $12,500 top 10, $10,000 top 25, $7,400 top 40.
All four hires are due the entirety of their remaining contract value if fired without cause.
All four would owe a buyout 100% of their remaining contract value if leaving before Dec. 31, 2026. After that they would owe no more than 60% of their remaining base compensation.
