LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin earned the nickname "Portal King" for his work at Ole Miss. Under Kiffin, the Rebels were among the best at recruiting the transfer portal.
Since arriving at LSU, Kiffin has teased a similar strategy. LSU will be a top player when the transfer portal opens on Jan. 2. The Tigers have plenty of needs and will give Kiffin the financial backing to address those needs. Kiffin's history at Ole Miss tells us he'll do a pretty good job in that department.
Ole Miss is 11-1 and in the College Football Playoff with over 65% of its starts coming from transfer portal players. Kiffin brought General Manager Billy Glasscock, who played a key role in building the Ole Miss rosters in 2024 and 2025.
Today, we'll take a look at where each of Kiffin's portal classes ranked in Oxford. 2022 was the first year the portal was in full swing, so we'll start there. Rankings are via 247Sports.
2022 – 2nd
Ole Miss's 2022 transfer class ranked second nationally, only trailing USC and one spot ahead of Brian Kelly's first LSU transfer class. The headlining player from this crop was quarterback Jaxson Dart, who went on to be one of the best players in Ole Miss history and is now an NFL starting QB.
Other notable additions included defensive tackle JJ Pegues and defensive end Jared Ivey.
2023 – 2nd
Again, in 2023, Ole Miss ranked second nationally. Tre Harris, a member of this class, was one of the SEC's top wide receivers in 2023. LSU fans grew all too familiar with him when the Tigers lost that shootout in Oxford. Tight end Caden Prieskorn was another value add, transferring from Memphis.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ole Miss signed Akello Stone, John Saunders, and Zamari Walton. All three were impact players in 2023.
2024 – 1st
In 2024, Ole Miss signed a star-studded transfer class and assembled one of the best rosters in the country. Five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen arrived from Texas A&M and was a force on the defensive line. Linebacker Chris Paul became one of the SEC's top defenders after transferring from Arkansas. In the secondary, Trey Amos proved to be a star, too.
This is the type of class LSU fans are hoping Kiffin can sign at LSU.
2025 – 4th
Ole Miss's 2025 transfer class was Kiffin's lowest-ranked class in Oxford, and it was still good for No. 4 in the nation.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is a star. He wasn't a top-ranked transfer after moving up from the D-II level, but count it as a scouting win for Glasscock's staff. Ole Miss's leading wide receiver, Harrison Wallace, arrived from Penn State. Wallace struggled in State College but emerged as one of the most productive pass catchers in the SEC.
