The Michigan football coaching search went from positive to uneasy to straight-up tumultuous in recent days.
The Wolverines have coveted Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, with Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham seeming to be right behind him. But, in order to get this search wrapped up, the Crimson Tide had to lose to Oklahoma on Friday (they didn't), and then Michigan would have had to offer Dillingham. And as Dillingham tells it, later on Saturday, after having re-signed with the Sun Devils, he never got that Michigan offer.
Via the 247Sports ASU vertical, Dillingham shared that he never advanced to that point where U-M offered him, but he praised the maize and blue and the job for whoever Michigan ends up hiring.
"For me, I never got offered the job," Dillingham said. "None of that ever got to that point, but it’s an awesome place with unlimited resources. Somebody is going to get an unbelievable opportunity to take over one of the best rosters in the country."

It's unclear why Michigan hadn't offered Dillingham once DeBoer seemingly became off the table. Now, the options for the Wolverines are starting to thin, with Louisville's Jeff Brohm, Missouri's Eliah Drinkwitz, Washington's Jedd Fisch, former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, and acting U-M head coach Biff Poggi being the current options.
The maize and blue need to have a new head coach in place by January 2, as that is the day that the transfer portal opens.
