Ohio State opponent in the CFP quarterfinal Cotton Bowl now known

We now know who Ohio State will play in the CFP quarterfinal matchup in the Cotton Bowl Classic on New Year's Eve. While many thought No. 7 seed Texas A&M would get the job done at home, hosting a first-round College Football Playoff game against No. 10 seed Miami (FL), it was the Hurricanes that prevailed in a windy, defensive-laden contest, 10-3.

The defenses played so well, and the wind created so much chaos that the teams entered the locker room at halftime with no score. The two missed multiple field goals, but both teams finally got a field goal on the board in the second half to have things knotted up at 3 points apiece heading down the stretch.

That's when magic struck for Miami, which was finally able to piece a drive together and cap things off with under two minutes left in the game to go ahead 10-3. Texas A&M would drive right down the field, but then quarterback Marcel Reed was picked off inside the ten-yard line on 3rd and goal to seal the deal.

There is, of course, history between Ohio State and Miami, so there will be plenty of storylines as we prepare for this one. We'll have more in the coming days, but we now can get pumped up about a matchup between the Buckeyes and Canes — and yes, no home-field advantage for a Texas team, on Dec. 31. Let's ring in the New Year in fashion.
