Eli Drinkwitz mentioned earlier this week that he wouldn’t hire Kirby Moore’s replacement until he felt comfortable with the Tigers’ approach to the bowl game. According to the latest report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Drinkwitz’s plans for Arizona must be coming along nicely.
According to a report from Zenitz this afternoon, Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is looking like the frontrunner for the Mizzou gig.
For those not familiar with industry speak “emerged as a leading candidate” often means “is closing in on the job.” Typical reporter hedge-speak. You know how it goes.
Matthew Gustafson wrote about Lindsey as a potential candidate when the job first opened earlier this month. Here’s what he had to say:
Lindsey served as the offensive coordinator at Michigan this season after two years at North Carolina, where the Tar Heels boasted an elite rushing attack with Omarion Hampton. UNC ranked seventh in the nation in 2023, Drake Maye’s final collegiate season, with more than 490 yards per game. Lindsey spent several years coaching with Gus Malzahn before then, serving as his offensive coordinator at UCF in 2022 and at Auburn during the 2017-18 seasons.
Lindsey would be a statement hire for a program looking to elevate its offense in 2026. With Ahmad Hardy and, potentially, Jamal Roberts set to return, Missouri should have one of the best rushing attacks in the country. Lindsey’s job would be to elevate the game of Matt Zollers and introduce new passing schemes that will bring back the explosiveness Mizzou fans saw during Moore’s first season in 2023.
