OXFORD − New Ole Miss football coach Pete Golding earned a nice bonus for leading the Rebels to a 41-10 CFP win over Tulane on Dec. 20.

It also triggered a bonus for former Ole Miss and current LSU coach Lane Kiffin.

The reason Golding is being paid is simple. Like most coaches, he has incentives in place for wins.

Because Ole Miss (12-1) beat Tulane (11-3) in the first round of the CFP, the Rebels earned a spot in the CFP quarterfinals. That game will be against Georgia (12-1) in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 (7 p.m., ESPN).

Ole Miss will pay Golding $250,000 for appearing in a CFP quarterfinal game, according to Golding’s term sheet obtained by the Clarion Ledger.

If Ole Miss wins and advances to the semifinals, that will increase to $500,000. Appearing in the national championship would net Golding $750,000, and a win in the national championship would mean Golding’s postseason bonus turns into $1 million.

Kiffin earned money because LSU agreed to pay Kiffin the bonuses he would have received had he stayed at Ole Miss, per reports.

Kiffin had a similar incentive structure to Golding’s. He clinched being paid $250,000 for Ole Miss’ win over the Green Wave, but it could turn into $1 million if the Rebels win the national championship.

Golding will make a base salary of $6.8 million, according to his term sheet. Kiffin will make $13 million coaching the Tigers, per a report from The Advocate.
