Texas A&M’s 10-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff was undoubtedly a major disappointment after finishing the 2025 regular season 11-1, but not scoring a touchdown in Kyle Field for the first time in 20-plus years is shocking and was a symptom of how the offense had been playing over the best month.

With the season coming to an abrupt end, the 2025 roster will lick its wounds and focus on the future, whether that be the NFL or returning to College Station next season, while head coach Mike Elko has already made several changes to his staff amid Collin Klein and Jay Bateman leaving for other opportunities.

After elevating Lyle Hemphill to the new defensive coordinator and hiring former Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams as the new linebackers coach, it’s now been reported that co-defensive line coach Sean Spencer is a favorite to leave the Aggies and join new Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin in Blacksburg for a lateral move.

This is all but a done deal and has been rumored for the last couple of weeks, leaving Tony Jerod-Eddie as the lone defensive line coach entering the offseason. However, with the news that former D-line and assistant head coach Elijah Robinson could return to Texas A&M in a similar role, Spencer’s departure wouldn’t result in a massive shift from a recruiting/development standpoint.
