Florida sophomore defensive lineman Michai Boireau announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.

“I want to give all thanks to God for the opportunity to be a student-athlete at the University of Florida,” Boireau said in his statement. “I’ truly thankful for my coaches, teammates, support staff and everyone who played a role in my development on and off the field.

“After a lot of reflection, prayer and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Boireau is one of the more significant losses of the offseason for Florida after starting nine games at defensive tackle this season. He should garner attention from several Power Four teams as the No. 75 overall transfer player, according to On3. He’s ranked No. 9 among defensive linemen in the portal.

Boireau’s career at Florida

Boireau came to Florida as the No. 22-ranked defensive lineman in the class of 2024, picking the Gators over Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others.

He played right away, logging 144 snaps across 12 games as a true freshman. Boireau started all nine weeks he played in as a sophomore in 2025. He leaves Florida with 35 total tackles (14 solo), two tackles for a loss, two sacks and one interception.
