Ohio State football commit Angelo Smith, brother of the Buckeyes star receiver Jeremiah Smith, received a scholarship offer from South Florida football Dec. 20, according to his social media. It’s where OSU offensive coordinator Brian Hartline will be the head coach after the Ohio State playoff run.
Angelo Smith committed to the Buckeyes on Sept. 21 after receiving a scholarship offer on June 17.
According to contract details obtained by The Dispatch, Hartline is not allowed to contact or recruit any high school athlete previously contracted or recruited by Ohio State for a period of one year after his contract was terminated with the Buckeyes. But if South Florida had prior contact with Angelo Smith before Hartline ended his OSU contract, USF is permitted to recruit the safety.
Hartline was named head coach of the Bulls on Dec. 3 and will continue to coach at Ohio State for the remainder of the Buckeyes’ playoff run. Hartline was reaffirmed to call plays by coach Ryan Day after the 13-10 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten championship, but Day told reporters on Dec. 22 he would take over play-calling duties for Hartline for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Miami.

Listed at 5 feet 10 inches and 170 pounds, Angelo Smith is a three-star recruit and the No. 56 safety in the class of 2027 according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is a junior at Chaminade-Madonna High School in Miami.
Jeremiah Smith will likely be unable to play with his brother if he chooses to attend Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ receiver is eligible to enter the NFL draft in 2027, the same year Angelo Smith graduates from high school.
