Joey Schlaffer, one of Penn State's young tight ends, is no longer listed on the team's online roster as of Wednesday.

Schlaffer was a four-star prospect out of Exeter Township Senior High School in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was ranked as the sixth best prospect in Pennsylvania in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. Despite his high grade, Schlaffer did not see the field much during his time with the program due to Penn State's talent at the tight end position.

The 6-foot-5, 252-pound tight end made his only career reception — an 18-yard touchdown — against Villanova earlier this season. Schlaffer hasn't officially announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal, but he will likely pursue more playing time at another program.

Schlaffer is the first to leave the program this season, but he likely won't be the last. The decision Penn State makes for its new head coach, as well as if James Franklin takes a new head coaching job this offseason, will likely influence the decisions from current players on the Nittany Lion roster.
