Ohio State right guard Tegra Tshabola will be unavailable for multiple weeks, coach Ryan Day said as his team prepares for a Dec. 31 College Football Playoff quarterfinal Cotton Bowl matchup against Miami.
Tshabola, a redshirt senior, has been a starter for Ohio State since 2024, accumulating 28 career starts. The details of Tshabola’s injury have yet to be disclosed.
“We’re going to take it as it goes,” Day said, “but it will probably be a little while.”
At the Big Ten championship on Dec. 6, Tshabola assumed his regular starting role, but by the second half redshirt sophomore Gabe VanSickle was playing.
With the possibility of Tshabola missing CFP games, VanSickle and junior Joshua Padilla will be sharing the right guard responsibilities, rotating at the position during games.
“We feel confident with both those guys in the game,” Day said. “They’ve shown some really good things, and Gabe (VanSickle) did a really good job. He went in there for some of these recent games, and that’s been good for us in terms of the depth. But that position is going to be important as we go into these playoffs.”
The Cotton Bowl kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
