Florida offered unranked 2028 cornerback Jamal Lagway (Willis, Texas), the brother of sophomore starting quarterback DJ Lagway, on Tuesday.

Lagway posted the news to his social media page, naming defensive backs coach Deron Wilson as the one who made the offer. The call came a day after Texas A&M became the first Power Four program to offer him. New Mexico and Sacramento State are the other two programs in the hunt.

Having a brother as the starting quarterback should help Florida recruit him. Jamal has been on campus for all of UF's home games to support DJ. Florida's coaching uncertainty could complicate his recruitment, though.

Lagway said he is "waiting to see who (the Gators) hire," according to Swamp247, but he's more focused on improving his game with three more years of high school ball left.

“It means a lot,” Lagway said to Gators Online. “They looked over my film, gave me all the details, positive and negative, and told me what I needed to work on. It’s a great environment there."

Lagway also had positive things to say about the coaches and fan base. Florida won the battle against Texas A&M for DJ, but prying another Texan from his home state will take some work.

None of the major recruiting services has a grade for Lagway yet, which is standard for a player in his class. The 247 composite rankings only have 228 players graded, but Power Four offers often prompt scouts to begin evaluating players.
