Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos officially announced that he is declaring for the 2026 NFL draft on Tuesday, putting an end to any outstanding questions about his future in college football.
Earlier in the offseason, news emerged that Castellanos’ waiver attempt with the NCAA was denied and that his representation would appeal the decision. The quarterback said following FSU’s season-ending loss to Florida that he was hoping “to be here but I don’t know what the future holds,” confirming when asked that he would, in fact, return to Florida State if his waiver was approved.
Head coach Mike Norvell confirmed the waiver was denied during a press conference last month, saying that while he and the team supported his endeavors in extending his eligibility, the Seminoles were “going to move forward for what we believe is the best for the competitive aspect of our quarterback position.”
Castellanos played one year at Florida State and recorded 2,760 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. He also was a threat on the ground for the Seminoles, rushing for 557 yards and nine scores. FSU was Castellanos’ third stop in his college career, starting at UCF for one year before two years at Boston College. The one year stop in Tallahassee, highlighted by a season opening win over Alabama, ends up being the last collegiate chapter for Castellanos.
The Seminoles will most likely turn to the portal for 2026 as the depth took an additional hit earlier today with Brock Glenn’s announcement to enter the transfer portal. Kevin Sperry and 2026 commitment Jaden O’Neal make up the current FSU quarterback room.
