Michigan football just lost one of its most important recruits just a few hours after news broke that the Wolverines are finalizing a deal with Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.

It's unclear if it's related to the switch to Whittingham from Moore, but 2026 four-star wide receiver recruit Brady Marchese will request a release from his signing to Michigan, according to On3.

It's big news, because the Wolverines needs some help in playmaking at wide receiver – U-M has only one returning wideout (Andrew Marsh) with at least 20 catches this season. But with Whittingham's revival and a big staff shuffle incoming, it's not terribly unexpected.

Marchese is a burner, turning 41 catches into 981 yards with 15 touchdowns in 11 games in 2025. A Touchdown Club of Atlanta 2025 Preseason All-Star, Marchese was previously a Georgia commit before U-M flipped him on Thursday, Dec. 5 and signed him later that afternoon.

He's a four-star, the No. 134 player nationally, No. 20 wide receiver in the class and No. 15 player in Georgia. His 6-1 frame, at 190 pounds, is excellent size for someone who will likely play in the slot.

Marchese is one of many recruits that will have a decision to make regarding their college futures, and for now, he's opting not to go to Michigan.
