Michigan football hasn’t even officially announced that it’s hiring Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to be the new leader of the Wolverines, yet, the maize and blue have their first casualty.

Many current players and signees have been playing wait-and-see after Sherrone Moore was fired, wanting to see who would get the nod in Ann Arbor. Two signees didn’t wait, however, with Bear McWhorter flipping to Auburn and Matt Ludwig flipping to Texas Tech. However, another is on their way out.

Hailing from Cartersville, Georgia, Brady Marchese flipped from the in-state Bulldogs to Michigan football the day after signing day. It was a huge coup for the Wolverines. However, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the four-star wide receiver is asking for a release from his NLI.

Not only was Marchese a big win for former head coach Sherrone Moore, he was a necessary addition given the lack of wide receivers to go along with quarterback Bryce Underwood. Michigan got some big playmakers in 2025 in Andrew Marsh and Jacob Washington, but Marchese was supposed to join Travis Johnson, Zion Robinson (who flipped to Stanford on signing day), and Jaylen Pile. However, now the maize and blue only have two of them remaining.
