MSU, Pat Fitzgerald making 'immediate impression' on elite, 4-star prospect

New Michigan State football head coach Pat Fitzgerald has reportedly made an “immediate impression” on one of the top 2027 in-state prospects.

Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong reported a notable positive development for the Spartans in regards to a high level in-state edge rusher. Wiltfong wrote that Fitzgerald has made an “immediate impression” on four-star edge rusher Myles Smith of Farmington, Mich.

Smith is listed as a four-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 92.81 in 247Sports’ composite rating system. He ranks as the No. 20 edge rusher and No. 186 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2027 class. He is also listed as the No. 4 player from Michigan in the class.

Michigan State extended an offer to Smith last week, and is one of more than 10 schools to offer him. According to 247Sports, he also holds offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa State, Indiana, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Purdue and West Virginia.
