Throughout spring practices and into fall camp, Oregon Ducks quarterbacks Dante Moore and Austin Novosad battled it out for the starting nod. Moore, a former five-star, eventually won the battle, relegating the former four-star Novosad to what was presumed to be the backup spot.

But when Moore went down with a broken nose against the Wisconsin Badgers in October, it was walk-on Brock Thomas who was sent onto the field in relief of the injured starter.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Novosad, who reportedly intends to enter the transfer portal, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Novosad threw just two passes in 2025, completing a 40-yarder against the Montana State Bobcats in the season-opener.

During his three-year Oregon tenure, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Novosad completed 12 of 15 passes for 99 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

As a four-star coming out of the 2023 class, there should be a market in the portal for the current redshirt sophomore, though there are a number of established starting quarterbacks who have also jumped to the portal in recent weeks.

Novosad joins six other Ducks who have recently announced their intentions of departing from the program and entering the portal: defensive backs Jahlil Florence, Dakoda Fields, Solomon Davis and Sione Laulea, wide receiver Justius Lowe and offensive lineman Lipe Moala.
