HOUSTON – Despite the overload of turnover and organizational changesLSU football has endured since the end of October, how the current coaching staff has kept the majority of roster in tact for LSU‘s bowl game is impressive.
But one big name the Tigers (7-5) will miss when they take the field inside NRG Stadium in the Texas Bowl against Houston (9-3) Saturday night (8:15 p.m. CT, ESPN) will be star senior cornerback Mansoor Delane.
Tigers interim head coach Frank Wilson told reporters during his media availability that Delane would be sitting out the Texas Bowl.
For much of his lone season in Baton Rouge, Delane has been dealing with what he described as a “core” injury. The Virginia Tech transfer missed one game during the regular season, LSU’s win over Western Kentucky in the penultimate game of the year, but returned to play against Oklahoma in the season finale.
Delane put together a great season at LSU, recording 45 tackles with two interceptions.
Is Mansoor Delane playing today?
LSU’s star corner won’t suit up against the Cougars in the Texas Bowl. Cornerbacks P.J. Woodland, Ja’Keem Jackson and D.J. Pickett will likely split the reps out on the perimeter. The trio has played a lot for LSU’s defense this season.
Why did Mansoor Delane opt out of Texas Bowl?
Delane is projected as a first-round NFL Draft choice. The senior corner is opting out of playing in the Texas Bowl as he looks to get fully healthy before the 2026 NFL Draft kicks off in a couple of months.
