Louisiana Tech is playing in its 15th bowl game, and it managed a grand total of nine combined points in its last two appearances, a blasting by Army in last year’s Independence, and a drubbing from Georgia Southern in the 2019 Independence.

Why Coastal Carolina Will Win
Can Coastal Carolina come out and play like there’s nothing to lose?
Head coach Tim Beck was sacked, Missouri State’s Ryan Beard is waiting in the wings, and defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson is in to try to make magic happen.
On the plus side, there aren’t a ton of opt-outs being discussed at the moment. On the other side, Louisiana Tech’s secondary is taking a little bit of a hit.
The Bulldogs have to win on the ground. The passing game hasn’t been the same after Blake Baker got hurt. Kolbe Fieds is okay, but the offense runs and runs and runs – at least lately.
Coastal Carolina’s run defense isn’t exactly a brick wall, but it’s had plenty of time to prepare, and it’s going to do everything possible to make the Bulldogs win this through the air.
On the flip side, the Chanticleers have to run well. They’re 5-0 when they get to at least 210 yards, and they’re going to do everything possible to pound away and keep the Bulldog offense on the sidelines – controlling the clock should mean almost everything. However …
Why Louisiana Tech Will Win
Yeah, I was trying to be nice before.
You and a few good friends could run for over 200 yards against the Coastal Carolina defense.
The Chanticleers were able to pull off wins when they scored a whole lot of points, but get the running game going against this bunch, and forget it.
Louisiana Tech’s running game went off over the last part of the season. It ripped through Liberty for 319 yards and five scores, hit Missouri State for 388 yards and five touchdowns, and it will keep pounding in this until Coastal Carolina can prove it can stop it.
The Chanticleer offense isn’t anything special, either.
The passing game isn’t there, it’s like pulling teeth to convert on third downs, and there’s no worry about controlling the clock against this bunch.
As long as the Bulldogs can avoid getting hit with a bazillion penalties – a problem for most of the year – and they don’t lose the turnover battle, they should be in control. However …
Coastal Carolina vs Louisiana Tech Prediction, Betting Lines
Here’s the strange thing about Coastal Carolina. It’s been so bad in so many ways all year, but it has a way of overcoming the problems with plenty of points.
The Louisiana Tech defense has been able to shut down the mediocre-to-awful, but it’s not a brick wall. Coastal Carolina is 6-1 when scoring at least 13 points, and it lost when it got shut down by the good teams on the slate.
However, the Bulldog offense will get going fast.
The running game will work right away, and it should be in control throughout, but Coastal Carolina will keep up in the shootout.
This will get blown off with the games coming up next, but don’t be stunned if this is the most fun game of the day.
