Saturday was a rough day for LSU football across the board, and not just because of the team’s 38-35 loss to Houston. Several key players announced plans to transfer, including nearly every rotational player and starter on the offensive line.
Amid all the transfer news, many fans are beginning to fear that even more crucial players might also be considering leaving. Chief among them is the Tigers’ talented linebacker, Whit Weeks.
New LSU football coach Lane Kiffin addressed those concerns Saturday, saying he is placing a “big emphasis on keeping Whit Weeks. That’s a big priority for us,” per The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander.
The ESPN broadcasters working the game said, based on their conversations with Weeks, there’s a feeling a return is possible.
Heading into this season, many assumed Weeks would be headed for the NFL Draft. However, after an injury-riddled junior year, it appears that may not be the case.
Weeks had a strong start to his third year with the Tigers, amassing 21 tackles and two tackles for loss in the first five games. His season fell apart when he suffered a broken ankle against Ole Miss, which kept him off the field for weeks 8-13. He returned for the Tigers’ final two games of the season but wasn’t the same, playing just 50 combined snaps.
Weeks could be a crucial part of ushering in the next class of Tigers’ linebackers if he returns in 2026. His brother, Zach, is expected to be a key part of that class.
