Report: BYU quarterback McCae Hillstead will enter the transfer portal

BYU quarterback McCae Hillstead intends to enter the transfer portal upon its opening on Jan. 2, according to a Monday report from Blair Angulo of 247 Sports.
Hillstead arrived at BYU prior to the 2024 campaign, appearing in four games as Bear Bachmeier’s backup in 2025.

The Springville, Utah, native and Skyridge High product began his college career at Utah State in 2023, where he threw for 1,062 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games with the Aggies.
Hillstead will have two remaining seasons of eligibility at his next destination.
In addition to Hillstead, four other BYU players intend to enter the transfer portal: offensive lineman Jake Griffin; wide receiver LaMason Waller; cornerback Marcus McKenzie; and wide receiver Dominique McKenzie.
