Matthew Scott resigns as Edinboro University's football coach

Matthew Scott’s tenure as Edinboro University’s football coach was a successful one.

It also spanned less than a calendar year.

Edinboro athletic director Katherine Robbins announced Scott’s resignation in a Dec. 29 news release. She also announced the hire of the former Indiana (Pennsylvania) University defensive lineman as the school’s 17th football coach on Jan. 14.

Matthew Scott resigned as Edinboro University's football coach on Dec. 29, less than a calendar year after he was hired for that role. Scott, who formerly played for Indiana (Pennsylvania) University's football team, guided the Fighting Scots to a 7-4 record for 2025. It was their first winning season since 2018.

The 2025 Fighting Scots went 7-4 with Scott, who stepped down to pursue an undisclosed job opportunity. He was voted the PSAC West Division’s coach of the year for guiding Edinboro to its first winning season since 2018.

“We thank coach Scott for his contributions to Edinboro football and the success both on and off the field this past season,” Robbins said. “We wish him success in his future endeavors.”

Eric Crandall, Edinboro’s defensive coordinator this past season, was named the program’s interim coach.
