After overcoming a 17-0 deficit in their first-round win at Oklahoma, the Alabama Crimson Tide are in the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff and will take on the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Alabama (11-3) is the No. 9 seed in the playoffs and is ranked No. 11 in the US LBM Coaches Poll; Indiana (13-0) is the No. 1 seed. The winner will advance to the CFP semifinals at the Peach Bowl. They’ll face No. 4 Texas Tech or No. 5 Oregon on Jan. 9 in Atlanta (6:30 p.m. CT, ESPN).
In the win over Oklahoma, Alabama scored 17 points in a span of 5:34 to tie the game before halftime. The Crimson Tide scored 27 straight points, which included two touchdown passes from Ty Simpson to freshman Lotzeir Brooks, a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by Zabien Brown, and two Conor Talty field goals.
Indiana defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 Big Ten championship game on Dec. 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza wrapped up the Heisman Trophy by going 15 of 23 for 227 yards and a touchdown.
Mendoza converted a crucial third-and-6 play with a 33-yard strike to receiver Charlie Becker for a decisive first down with just over two minutes to play.
For Alabama, the 2026 Rose Bowl will mark 100 years since the Crimson Tide first played in Pasadena and stunned college football with a 20-19 win over the Washington Huskies. It’s commonly referred to as “The Game That Changed The South.”
For Indiana, Thursday’s game will mark the first time the Hoosiers have played in the Rose Bowl since New Year’s Day 1968.
