Jones made his debut in the season-opener against Long Island, which featured him completing 12 of his 18 passes and throwing 131 yards and two touchdowns.
“I learned a lot last year—being in a college system for the first time, experiencing new things, and adapting to a different offensive language,” Jones told Florida Victorious. “My high school coach prepared me well, but this was another level. Those learning experiences are helping me now as I pick up the offense quickly this offseason.”
Jones’ lone action against the SEC was during Florida’s road loss to Kentucky, entering the game after starting quarterback DJ Lagway was benched. Jones was 9 of 17 and tossed for 60 yards.
Lagway announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 15.
“The guys we have coming back really bleed orange and blue,” Jones told Florida Victorious. “They’re committed to the process and want Florida to be a winning program again. A lot of those guys are going to contribute to the explosiveness of the offense.
“As for additions, we want players who truly want to be here, just like Coach (Jon) Sumrall. He wanted this job and wants to bring the program back to where it belongs. Those are the types of guys we want in the building.”
Coming out of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Jones was rated as a four-star recruit and was ranked No. 21 among quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle by both On3 and 247sports.
In his high school career, the Jacksonville native recorded 75 touchdowns and 7,197 passing yards and only 21 interceptions with a completion rate of 59.3%.
