A young Georgia Bulldogs fan was rewarded for showing his loyalty to Georgia. Fifth grader Nolan McGill, who went viral for refusing to sing the Tennessee Volunteers‘ fight song, “Rocky Top” at a school concert was rewarded with tickets to the Sugar Bowl by Fanatics. He’ll see his favorite team play the Ole Miss Rebels in New Orleans.

“Rocky Top” is one of the most recognizable fight song in college football. The song was made in 1967 by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and recorded by the Osborne Brothers.

McGill grew up in Tennessee, but his parents were Georgia fans, proving he’s on the right side of the rivalry. When he was interviewed on David Pollack’s “See Ball, Get Ball” podcast, he reaffirmed his hatred for the Volunteers’ fight song.

“Our music teacher had us sing a whole bunch of songs,” McGill said. “And one of the those songs was Rocky Top, sadly. And I’m never going to sing that trash.”

As a result, Fanatics surprised McGill and his family with tickets to the Sugar Bowl, where the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs will play the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels. Fanatics sent a group of Christmas carolers to present the news, and McGill read the letter to reveal he got the ticket. His reaction is priceless, and his story proves that college rivalries pass through generations.

As for the Georgia-Tennessee rivalry, it’ll be put on hold for a year. The two teams will not play during the 2026 season, ending a streak of 23 straight seasons where the Bulldogs played the Volunteers. Kirby Smart joked about adding a statue of McGill to Georgia’s campus before that 2027 game.

Georgia has dominated the rivalry with nine straight victories against Tennessee. Their last game was a 44-41 overtime thriller, with Georgia winning on a walk-off touchdown. Georgia will hope for the same result against the Ole Miss Rebels and their high-flying offense in the Sugar Bowl.
