Outback Bowl Game Thread: Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

And here we are.

Vanderbilt caps off the first 10-win season in school history with today’s bowl game, the Outback Bowl (no, I’m not going to call it the ReliaQuest Bowl) in Tampa, Florida, against the Iowa Hawkeyes. This is Vanderbilt’s first bowl game in Florida since the 1955 Gator Bowl; in the intervening time frame, the Commodores have played bowl games in Atlanta (the 1974 Peach Bowl, when the Peach Bowl was less of a big deal than it is today), Birmingham (three times), Nashville (twice), Memphis, Shreveport, and Houston. So, uh, you can sort of see why this is a big deal.

Diego Pavia will be playing his final college game. Eli Stowers, who’s opted out, will not. I’m not aware of any other opt-outs for the Commodores. The opponent, Iowa, is 8-4 and, uh, is playing in the Outback Bowl for the seventh time since 2003. They pretty much live here.

Anchor Down.
